How We Calculate This
Track Lane Distances
A standard outdoor track is 400m in lane 1. Each additional lane adds 2π × lane width per lap due to the wider radius on the bends.
Lane N distance = (400 + (N-1) × 2π × lane width) × laps
Staggers
Lane staggers compensate for the extra distance in outer lanes. The stagger is the difference in distance between lane N and lane 1 for the given number of laps.
Indoor tracks
Indoor tracks are typically 200m with 4-6 lanes and tighter bends (smaller radius). Lane width on indoor tracks is often 0.90-1.00m. Adjust the lane width setting for indoor calculations.
