How We Calculate This

This calculator estimates the optimal number of shoes in rotation and calculates replacement timing and annual costs.

Pairs needed

  • Up to 30 km/week: 2 pairs
  • 30-60 km/week: 3 pairs
  • Over 60 km/week: 4 pairs

Lifespan calculation

Lifespan = Base lifespan x Weight modifier

Light runner: +15%, Medium: baseline, Heavy: -20%. Trail shoes have a shorter base lifespan than road shoes.

Replacement schedule

Weeks per pair = Lifespan / (Weekly km / Pairs in rotation)
